Why do business with a professional translator?

Some will say: “What’s so special about professional translators? You just have to know the language.”

This is partly true. Anyone can be a one-day plumber, cook or singer. However, knowledgeable business people understand the difference between homemade and professional translations. The first victim of a bad translation is you.

Simply being bilingual is not enough to offer professional translation services. You need specialized knowledge, methods and, of course, personal skills. The definition of a professional translator is even narrower.

You will find plenty of people out there offering you translation services. Some of them lack the appropriate qualifications. Others pretend they can do everything in record time. Don’t fall for it. In short, to make a wise business decision, you need to know more about this oftentimes misunderstood activity.

Professional translation services are:

  • supported by appropriate education (e.g. a B.A. in Translation);
  • well-thought, using knowledge, principles, methods, resources and tools adapted for each job (e.g. Computer-Assisted Translation software);
  • evaluated, after having made a precise and realistic evaluation of each potential job;
  • fair, rewarding the client as much as the provider; and
  • delivered as promised, reflecting the professional’s sense of the credibility and responsibility (who ideally is a member of a professional body such as the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec).

We work with this in mind.
